Mr. Imran Masood



Mr Imran Masood is a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at Edgbaston Eye Consultants and one of the Directors. His clinical specialism is in the surgical management of patients with complex cataracts, corneal and conjunctival diseases and patients with glaucoma. He has a portfolio of substantive and honorary NHS appointments at the Birmingham and Midland Eye Centre (where he is Director of Clinical Governance), University Hospital Birmingham, the Birmingham Children’s Hospital. His research portfolio includes work as an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Birmingham Centre for Translational Medicine where he is Co-director of the Birmingham Institute for Glaucoma Research.

His clinical and research interests are in angle closure glaucoma, complex cataract surgery, cataract surgery in glaucoma patients, complex trabeculectomy and aqueous shunt procedures. He also has an interest in minimally invasive glaucoma surgery and introduced both the GATT and Hydrus procedure to the UK. He has a keen interest in the science and clinical management of glaucoma in African-Caribbeans. His also conducts basic science research in wound healing, trabecular meshwork biology and glaucomatous optic neuropathy at the University of Birmingham.
